This iconic Christmas movie is on the move for 2024 (Where can you watch Rudolph?)

As a gamer who has grown up with these timeless Christmas specials, I must admit that the news of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Frosty the Snowman” leaving CBS for NBC this holiday season feels like a punch to the heart. These shows have been part of my annual tradition since I can remember, and it seems like the good old days are slipping away one by one.

As a dedicated gamer diving into the festive spirit this year, I’ve been looking forward to catching up with Rudolph, the iconic red-nosed reindeer, for the past 51 seasons on CBS. But guess what? Things are shifting! This holiday season, I can’t wait to discover where and when Rudolph will be airing – let’s keep our eyes peeled for updates!

It appears that CBS is parting ways with a few long-standing programs. Earlier today, it was announced that “Rudolph” will no longer be airing on CBS. Interestingly, we also learned earlier that The Grammys are relocating to ABC and Hulu in 2027. However, the change for the Christmas movie is happening much more quickly – it’s moving this very year!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is moving to NBC

The classic Christmas film is moving to a new television network. For the first time since 1972, it will air on NBC instead of CBS.

Initially, the show premiered on NBC in 1964, but after spending eight years on that network, CBS acquired the broadcasting rights. So, in essence, we’re returning to the original network.

Besides “The Christmas Movie,” NBC is also acquiring another holiday classic, “Frosty the Snowman.” This animated special has been airing on CBS since its debut in 1969, but will now make a move to NBC, with the shift scheduled to take place in 2024.

When will Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman air on NBC?

This holiday season, Frosty the Snowman will make its debut first, airing for the very first time on NBC on Thursday, December 5th at 8:30 PM Eastern Time (7:30 PM Central Time). A re-run of the movie is scheduled for Thursday, December 12th.

In celebration of its 60th anniversary, NBC is broadcasting a special 75-minute version of the classic tale “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer“. This special episode will air on Friday, December 6th at 8/7 central time. A rebroadcast will take place on Wednesday, December 11th.

It seems that neither film will be streamable this year as per TVLine’s report. However, Frosty the Snowman can be streamed on both Amazon Prime Video and Hulu. To watch these films away from home, you would have to opt for renting or purchasing them digitally.
