“This has been my dream game since I was a kid” Star Wars Outlaws players are happy they’re not an overpowered Jedi for once

As a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich lore and intricate details of this beloved universe, I must say that Star Wars Outlaws has truly captured my heart. Growing up, I always fantasized about what it would be like to live and breathe within the galaxy far, far away without the pressure of being a Jedi or a soldier. So, to finally see this dream come to life in a game is nothing short of magical.

One of the most buzzed-about summer releases is Star Wars Outlaws, long awaited by fans since EA’s control over the Star Wars license. Now that Ubisoft has taken charge of crafting a story within this legendary universe, there’s been great anticipation to see how they handle it. While there were initial criticisms before its debut, it’s been receiving positive feedback so far, with both fans and critics alike commending Star Wars Outlaws.

User ‘FlaccidArmpit’ lauded the Star Wars Outlaws subreddit, commending it for centering around an ordinary individual in the galaxy instead of a Jedi or soldier.

“Ever since I was a kid, this game has been the embodiment of my childhood dreams – not as some wild Jedi capable of toppling Star Destroyers, but simply living life within the vast Star Wars universe. And let me tell you, the immersion is beyond words. The level of detail in the world is astounding; there’s so much to explore and interact with, it feels like I’ve stepped right into one of the most intricately crafted open worlds I’ve ever encountered. To top it off, it’s Star Wars! It’s like all my dreams have come true in this game.”

In most Star Wars games, players usually don’t get to play as a Jedi, but instead take on roles like soldiers or bounty hunters. However, there are exceptions, and Star Wars Outlaws is one such case where you become an ordinary citizen embarking on an adventure.

As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I couldn’t agree more! Others seemed to feel the same way too. Jamie–UK shared my sentiments by saying, “Here’s hoping this is just the beginning of numerous open-world Star Wars games.” Similarly, weturningbob was equally thrilled about Star Wars Outlaws, remarking that it’s astonishing how long it took to bring a quality open-world Star Wars game to life, particularly one that doesn’t revolve around Jedi. He added that he always felt there was a wealth of untapped potential in the Star Wars universe beyond Jedi-centric narratives and gameplay.

While some found the game commendable, others, like U/FlopTheLegend, didn’t share the same sentiment. They pointed out that certain aspects seemed restrictive and artificial in their opinion.

“I generally appreciate the game, but find many aspects restrictive. I dislike the mandatory stealth sequences, which currently seem rather comical. I prefer to think on my feet, but here they abruptly end your stealth sequence with a transition screen. Having only one blaster and speeder is also unsatisfying, as it feels quite underpowered. The combat feels somewhat monotonous, though perhaps it becomes more engaging once additional weapon enhancements are unlocked. I do enjoy the narrative and the environment, however.”
