As a longtime fan of the heartwarming saga that is “When Calls the Heart” and its spinoff, “When Hope Calls“, I must admit, three years of silence left me feeling like a lonesome cowboy waiting for his mail order bride. But alas, my patience has been rewarded! The news of Season 2’s arrival has brought a warm glow to my prairie homestead.
After three years of wondering, we finally have an update about the When Calls the Heart spinoff series, When Hope Calls.
Initially, the show premiered its first season consisting of ten episodes on Hallmark in 2019. Later, it shifted to a fresh network called Great American Family, airing two holiday-themed episodes. There seemed to be optimism that the program might continue, but since then, we’ve only heard silence regarding renewal.
Quite a while has passed with little news regarding the series, but at last, TVLine brings us some fresh updates.
When Hope Calls Season 2 will happen but there will be changes
In the Christmas specials, we discovered that changes were coming. Following the relocation, Jocelyn Hudson did not reappear. In the final episode of Season 1 for When Hope Calls, her character, Grace Bennett, set off for London. Initially, it was intended to be a temporary absence, but when Hudson failed to return, it became straightforward to write off the character. She found a fresh start in London and decided to make it her permanent home.
Given the story takes place in 1916, it’s understandable that people didn’t move around as freely as they do now. Since travel between continents was difficult back then, it’s reasonable to assume that once someone settled down, they tended to stick around longer.
Additionally, it’s clear why Greg Hovanessian didn’t reappear as Chuck. This is logical because he was primarily associated with Grace, her romantic interest. With Grace no longer present, his character seemed less essential. Instead, he moved on to other opportunities or settings.
What to expect in When Hope Calls Season 2
What do you think the direction might be for the second season of Sullivan’s Crossing, given that Morgan Kohan (who plays the lead) will be returning despite working on her own series, and Ryan-James Hatanaka (Gabriel) is also expected to return? The initial episodes are rumored to focus on honoring the romantic relationship between these two characters.
In the second season of “When Hope Calls,” we’ll encounter some fresh faces. The storyline revolves around the orphanage, and you can expect to witness the kids, the surrounding farmlands and ranches, as well as the entire town.
In this production, you’ll encounter actors portraying characters named Nora, Michael, and Wyatt, with Cindy Busby, Christopher Russell, and Nick Bateman stepping into their roles respectively. Additionally, Wendy Crewson and Henneke Talbot are anticipated to reprise their roles as Tess and Maggie in the story.
Lori Laughlin will not be part of the main cast in the upcoming season of “When Calls the Heart.” Despite her role in previous Christmas specials, even amidst the college admissions scandal controversy, it remains unclear as to why she won’t reprise her character for the next season.
