The Witcher season 5 starts filming in early 2025, says star Liam Hemsworth

As a dedicated gamer with a soft spot for epic fantasy narratives, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation regarding Liam Hemsworth’s takeover as Geralt in The Witcher season 4. I’ve been a loyal fan since the first season, and Henry Cavill’s portrayal of the White Wolf was nothing short of captivating. However, having played the video game series myself, I have some faith that Hemsworth will do justice to the character.

Liam Hemsworth recently visited the set of “Live with Kelly and Mark” to discuss his upcoming Netflix romantic comedy film “Lonely Planet,” set to debut on October 11th. However, he also hinted at future projects on the streaming platform, including his role as Geralt in “The Witcher” season 4, a part previously held by Henry Cavill.

In his interview on the talk show, Hemsworth admitted that prior to assuming the role of Geralt, previously played by Cavill who left after season 3, he hadn’t read the books that served as the basis for the Netflix series nor had he watched The Witcher. Yet, having been acquainted with the video game, it sparked his interest to delve into the books and show before embarking on his role.

Fans of “The Witcher” may find themselves feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension regarding the alterations in store for the series during season 4, such as Cavill’s replacement by Hemsworth and the fact that season 4 will pave the way for the fifth and concluding season. Fortunately, Hemsworth shares some information about when filming for season 4 is likely to finish and when production on season 5 might start.

The Witcher season 5 filming picks up after season 4 wrap

During a conversation on Live with Kelly and Mark, Hemsworth disclosed and validated that he’s been working on The Witcher’s fourth season for nearly nine months now. Filming for this season commenced earlier this year, and the actor mentioned that they plan to finish shooting in late October 2024, which is approximately three more weeks from then. The fourth season of The Witcher is expected to air in 2025.

After a four-month hiatus, Hemsworth confirms that the team behind The Witcher will regroup in early 2025 to initiate another eight months of filming for season 5. Assuming everything runs smoothly, production on the final season might start around February 2025, placing season 5 on track for a 2026 release… but let’s save thoughts about 2026 for later!

Fans can rejoice as it seems there won’t be an extended gap between seasons 4 and 5 compared to previous seasons. Typically, there has been a two-year interval between each season, with the first airing in December 2019, the second in December 2021, and the third split into June and July 2023. However, due to ongoing filming, it’s clear that season 4 won’t arrive in 2024 as initially hoped.

After finishing filming by fall 2024, The Witcher season 4 will proceed into post-production, which might last anywhere from five to six months or possibly longer. So, be ready for a bit of waiting before the show comes back in 2025. In the meantime, it’s exciting to anticipate another season and also the upcoming release of The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep in February 2025.
