The White Lotus’ Mike White Slams Composer Who Left Show Ahead of Season 4

The White Lotus creator Mike White is firing back at composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer.

Cristóbal Tapia de Veer has contributed to every season of HBO’s series The White Lotus so far. However, just last week, it was revealed that the composer will not be returning for Season 4. According to an interview with The New York Times, Tapia de Veer and show creator Mike White have experienced creative differences since the beginning of the show in Season 1.

What did Mike White say about the composer who left The White Lotus ahead of Season 4?

During an interview on The Howard Stern Show, White responded to remarks made by his former composers. He stated through Variety, ” frankly, I’m not sure what transpired, but now I find myself reading his interviews because he seems to be engaging in a PR stunt about leaving the show. I don’t believe he held me in high regard. He wants people to perceive him as edgy and mysterious, while I… well, I guess I enjoy watching reality TV.

Our interactions were more like constructive criticism than actual fights, according to him. I can’t recall any real arguments with him, just perhaps some intense email exchanges. Mostly, it was me providing feedback. I believe he disliked the process of receiving my suggestions or making revisions because he didn’t value my opinion. I knew he wasn’t collaborative and preferred to work independently. What surprised me was his decision to criticize me and the show in The New York Times three days before the finale, which I found underhanded.

As for our collaboration on The White Lotus Season 3, Cristóbal Tapia de Veer opted out of attending meetings and workshops with me throughout the project.

White observed, “He’d often give me a disdainful grin as if I was merely a simple-minded creature. It seems he’s making a mountain out of a molehill regarding our creative disagreement… He indeed possesses great skill.
