As a seasoned reader with a penchant for enchanting tales and a soft spot for whimsical romances, I must confess that Erin Sterling’s The Graves Glen series has been a delightful addition to my literary journey. Having dabbled in the first two installments, I was hesitant about diving into The Wedding Witch, but boy, was I proven wrong!
2021 saw a lot of buzz surrounding “The Ex Hex” by Erin Sterling. Regardless of where you looked, there was always someone praising it as a must-read when it hit the shelves.
After the initial release of “The Kiss Curse” in 2022, the series has continued with the upcoming addition of “The Wedding Witch”. For those familiar with the series, it focuses on the romantic journeys of the three Penhallow brothers.
Initially, I must admit that I wasn’t overly fond of the other books in the series, which made me hesitant as I approached The Wedding Witch. In retrospect, I should have trusted my instincts and given Erin Sterling the benefit of the doubt. After all, I knew she was capable of weaving a delightful and romantic tale.
Before getting into my thoughts though, I’d like to thank Avon for sending me a finished copy of The Wedding Witch so I could read and review it for all of you.
The Wedding Witch is arguably the best book in The Graves Glen series.
Although The Graves Glen Series could be seen as a collection of standalone novels, reading the initial two books prior to The Wedding Witch is advisable. Doing so will allow you to become acquainted with our characters and gain valuable background information. Speaking from personal experience, I recommend this approach after having revisited the first book and then read the second for the very first time.
In summary, the narrative centers around Bowen Penhallow, the last unmarried brother, and his romantic entanglement with Tamsyn. You might remember Tamsyn from “The Ex Hex,” and these two characters meet because Tamsyn is an antiquarian specializing in magical artifacts, who chooses to work solely for Bowen. Their relationship is filled with flirtation, but as colleagues they are careful not to let their feelings escalate too quickly.
At Yule, Bowen travels to Graves Glen, where events take an unexpected turn when Tamsyn discovers a substantial reward for a unique brooch. Remarkably, Bowen must also attend the same wedding, acting as a helper for his spectral friend Declan, whose former fiancée is set to marry. Tamsyn and Bowen cross paths just as they near the brooch, but a spell is then invoked, transporting them back to 1957.
In that setting, the duo must locate the brooch, ensure Bowen’s grandparents tie the knot, and most importantly, maintain their existence in the current time. Filled with numerous staged dating scenes, including the infamous one-bed scenario, this tale promises a heap of enjoyable moments.
I found “The Wedding Witch” particularly enjoyable due to its well-balanced structure. It skillfully combined elements of romance, character growth, and action, ensuring no single aspect overwhelmed the others. The narrative flowed effortlessly, creating a charming reading experience perfect for the spooky season. Notably, this story unfolds during Yule, an element less commonly found in romance novels. Thus, it could serve as an excellent choice for readers seeking a unique read during the Yule or Christmas season.
Amongst the books in the Graves Glen series, “The Wedding Witch” was my top pick and provided a wonderful reading experience. If you haven’t delved into the series yet, now is your opportunity. And if you gather all these books together, it will create an appealing display. To be honest, I found this book incredibly enjoyable, and I’m glad I decided to read more from Erin Sterling.
