As a die-hard fan who’s been through the apocalyptic rollercoaster ride that is “The Walking Dead” universe, I must say, the arrival of “The Ones Who Live” was like finding a beacon of hope amidst the ruins. The synopsis promised a love story between Rick and Michonne, two characters who’ve been through more than most couples in a lifetime.
The sixth offshoot of AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” titled “The Ones Who Live,” picks up where Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) left off. This series debuted on both AMC and AMC+ in February 2024 to generally favorable feedback. As of September 10, the show can be found on Blu-ray and DVD.
The synopsis for the series reads: “The love story between Rick and Michonne. Changed by a world that is constantly changing, will they find themselves in a war against the living or will they discover that they too are The Walking Dead?”
In the new season of The Walking Dead, we see the comeback of Lincoln and Gurira as Rick and Michonne, characters who were first introduced back in the early seasons. Pollyanna McIntosh returns to her role as Jadis, a character she previously portrayed in both TWD and World Beyond. Joining this star-studded cast are Terry O’Quinn, Lesley Ann Brandt, Matthew Jeffers, Andrew Bachelor, Breeda Wool, Craig Tate, and Frankie Quinones. Additionally, three more familiar faces from the TWDU universe make appearances in the series, but I won’t give away any spoilers if you haven’t caught up on the show yet.
In the hit show “The Walking Dead,” Scott M. Gimple held the role of Chief Content Officer, overseeing the series while simultaneously serving as its showrunner and executive producer. Alongside him, Angela K. Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Denise Huth, Brian Brockrath, and Greg Nicotero were also executive producers for this series.
In a remarkable achievement, “The Residents” shattered previous records for viewership and customer sign-ups on AMC+, and they also claimed the top spot as the most-watched drama debut of the 2023/24 TV season in crucial demographics. This series marked the biggest premiere on AMC in six years and became the most discussed topic on Twitter during its premiere night.

Will there be a season 2 of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live?
The hard copies state that this is the first season of “The Ones Who Live.” However, since it’s a limited series, one might wonder why they don’t mention that it’s the only season. This could imply that the decision-makers in TWDU are open to creating more seasons for this show, although what that might entail is anyone’s guess. This hint of potential future content excites fans.
