The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 must do justice to these character's storylines

As a long-time fan of The Walking Dead universe, I find myself both intrigued and concerned as we approach the third season of Daryl Dixon. While I appreciate the focus on Daryl and Carol’s journey, I can’t help but miss the captivating characters that graced our screens in seasons 1 and 2 – particularly Laurent and Ash.

In a straightforward and conversational tone: The TV show “The Walking Dead” featuring Daryl Dixon completed its second season. This closure paves the way for the narrative to unfold in the upcoming third season, where the action is shifted to Spain.

In Season 2, Carol, played by Melissa McBride, re-entered the storyline as she embarked on a trip to France to meet up with Daryl (Norman Reedus) once more. The season finale concluded with Carol and Daryl navigating their way towards England via the Chunnel. During this journey, they each had distressing illusions that also served as a means for them to cope with heartbreaking losses.

It seems like the characters who debuted in seasons 1 and 2 may exit the plotline, either by dying or leaving Daryl behind. This departure could create a substantial narrative gap, as the initial seasons’ main story arc might now be left unresolved.

What about Laurent and Ash?

In season 1 of the spinoff, Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) was introduced as a character who played a crucial role in Daryl’s secondary objective. His primary goal was to get back home, but his secondary one involved helping Laurent and a nun named Isabelle (Clémence Poésy). Over time, Isabelle developed into Daryl’s love interest, and they all journeyed together towards The Nest.

The Nest served as the base for a group known as The Union of Hope, a faction that holds the belief that Laurent’s difficult birth granted him immunity to the virus. Daryl played midwife and successfully delivered the child. Later on in season 2, it was unveiled that the leader, Losang (Joel de la Fuente), had sinister intentions. His plan was to let a walker bite Laurent, confident that he would endure, thus demonstrating his unique ability to save mankind.

On his following endeavor, Daryl aimed to shield the child from The Nest. Accompanied by numerous allies, this mission unfortunately claimed the life of Isabelle. In the meantime, Daryl would reconnect with Carol, who introduced a fresh character, Ash (Manish Dayal), whom she had flown to France, into the narrative.

After wrapping up season 2, I, along with Ash, managed an escape from France in my plane, aiming for the Commonwealth. Daryl felt this was the best spot for Laurent to find some semblance of a normal life. If things go according to Daryl and Carol’s plans, we’ll be back there too.

In season 3, the narrative is primarily centered around Daryl and Carol, which isn’t unexpected given their significant roles in The Walking Dead Universe since 2010. However, after giving Laurent a substantial part in Daryl’s storyline in the first two seasons, will they completely eliminate his character? Additionally, Ash, an incredibly entertaining new character in The Walking Dead Universe, is also a question mark.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3

There’s widespread anticipation among fans that the tale of Ash and Laurent isn’t concluded yet. It would be unfair to their characters if they aren’t brought back in some capacity. Laurent played a significant role in the initial season, while Ash orchestrated the reunion between Daryl and Carol, making him our hero.

It seems both characters are heading towards a positive conclusion, but there’s always the chance of unexpected obstacles along the way. While Ash is well-versed in survival, Laurent has limited experience due to his sheltered upbringing. If they face situations similar to what Ash and Carol encountered during their trip, it might prevent them from reaching Ohio. Fingers crossed for further explorations of both Ash’s and Laurent’s adventures.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon returns to AMC and AMC+ exclusively in 2025.
