The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 finale an excellent set up to season 3

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol has truly outdone itself this season! The finale was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, suspense, and nail-biting action. The way they incorporated the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” into the storyline was a stroke of genius.

The final episode for this season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol” aired on both AMC and AMC+ on November 3. This episode effectively set up the events for the upcoming third season, which is slated to debut in 2025.

Proceed with caution, as I’m about to delve into some revelations from Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, which might spoil your experience if you haven’t seen it yet.

The final episode of the season commenced with a heartfelt scene featuring Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi). As Daryl stumbled upon a guitar he had previously given to Laurent, he marveled at Laurent’s musical talents as he played a beautiful rendition of the Rolling Stones song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” Intriguingly, Daryl joined in on the singing.

A significant goal in this episode is to arrange travel for characters Ash (Manish Dayal), Carol (Melissa McBride), and Laurent towards America, using Ash’s airplane. Despite his continued anger over the lie Carol told to persuade him into helping her earlier, Ash ultimately decides to assist by performing this task.

In this scenario, Jacinta (Nassima Benchicou), currently at the helm of Union of Hope, joined forces with Anna (Lukerya Ilyashenko), aided by Sabine (Tatiana Gousseff), who used to be Genet’s (Anne Charrier) right-hand. Together, they attempted to prevent Ash from boarding the plane. However, it was Daryl and Carol who ultimately thwarted their plans, ensuring both Ash and Laurent departed safely. This scene showcased a remarkable reunion of the duo, as they once again demonstrated their exceptional skills in action.

Akila, played by Soraya Hachoumi, joins Fallou (Eriq Ebouaney), Codron (Romain Levi), and Nadine (Chrystal Boursin) in their salvage operation at an abandoned psychiatric facility. They are later apprehended by Sabine (Tatiana Gousseff), who was once Genet’s (Anne Charrier) right-hand woman. Sabine reveals that Jacinta (Nassima Benchicou) will bring Laurent’s prophecy to fruition, and she demands Ash’s airplane. Over time, the audience witnesses Jacinta and Anna reaching an understanding where they decide to mutually aid each other; Anne gains the plane, while Jacinta secures Laurent.

Carol, Daryl, Soraya Hachoumi (Akila), Eriq Ebouaney (Fallou), and Romain Levi (Codron) make their way back to Paris. They are joined by Matt Swift (Angus) and Sarah McCardie (Fiona) before they embark on a journey through the Channel Tunnel, an undersea railway tunnel, to escape France and head towards England, together with them.

During their travels, they reach a checkpoint where it appears that those present had fought each other to death, possibly due to delusions caused by excessive exposure to guano – essentially bat droppings which can have psychoactive effects. Daryl, Carol, and the others encountered hallucinations within the tunnel and faced peculiar walkers emitting bioluminescence.

In a strange turn of events, Carol starts experiencing blurred vision and imagines one of the wandering individuals resembles an older version of Sophia. She pursues this figure and encounters another walker that bears a striking resemblance to herself. Struggling to take its life, she eventually succeeds, only to find Sophia, clutching her doll, standing before her. They embrace, but when Carol asks to join Sophia, she slips away and continues walking.

In the episode, after discovering that Daryl wasn’t responsible for his brother’s death, a distraught Codron started seeing apparitions of his deceased sibling. Unfortunately, it was just a walker that Daryl had to eliminate, sparing Codron. However, when the walker resembled his dead brother, Codron mistakenly assumed Daryl was the culprit. This led to a confrontation between them, and when another walker appeared, Codron mistook it for his brother. Consequently, he chased after the new threat, believing it was his deceased brother.

In the aftermath of being injured by Codron, Daryl frantically looks for a gas mask to minimize his contact with harmful substances. Unfortunately, he’s deceived by his guides who seize the remaining two masks and turn against him. As he struggles under the stress, Daryl experiences hallucinations featuring Isabelle (Clémence Poésy), a character who met her end in an earlier episode. She encourages him with her words, “Bet on hope,” a phrase she shared during their initial encounter. Rallying from his disarray, he manages to slay the guides and secure the masks. As Isabelle wishes him courage with a parting “Bon Courage, Mounsiour Dixon,” she vanishes, leaving fireflies dancing behind her.

Daryl and Carol locate each other and proceed along the tunnel, planning a brief detour in England en route to Spain. As they journey, the classic tune of The Rolling Stones’ “Can’t Get What You Want” fills the air, marking the conclusion of their season.

For the third installment of “The Walking Dead,” focusing on Daryl Dixon, production commenced in Spain during August 2024. Fans can expect an intriguing encounter between Carol and Daryl before their journey to Spain unfolds, shedding light on the fate of Ash and Laurent. Additionally, there’s a possibility that we might re-encounter Codron.
