As a seasoned gamer with an eye for detail, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming third season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon“. Having grown up playing survival games set in post-apocalyptic worlds, this series has always resonated with me on a deeper level.

In 2025, AMC and AMC+ welcome back Daryl Dixon for a third season of “The Walking Dead.” This series, one of AMC’s most popular, has garnered significant viewership due to its captivating backdrop – the stunning landscapes of France in seasons 1 & 2. The upcoming season, now being filmed, will transport us to Spain, further reinventing and broadening the universe of “The Walking Dead.

Recently, Series Producer Steve Squillante sat down with Variety for a chat about the upcoming season and the allure of shooting in Spain. According to the article, top-tier producers are drawn to filming in Spain because of their skilled crews, picturesque locations, reliable service companies, and tax incentives that will be expanded in 2024.

In the second season of “The Walking Dead,” characters Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) reconnected. The season concluded with them journeying through the Chunnel towards England, where they’d meet the intriguing character portrayed by Stephan Merchant. Their storyline will then take them to Spain, promising fresh experiences ahead.

Daryl Dixon – filming in Spain

According to Squillante, over 95% and more than 90% of the upcoming season will be shot in Spain, with a predominantly Spanish film crew. This lends an authentic feel to both the environment and narrative that will unfold nationwide, featuring significant locations such as Aragón’s Belchite ruins. Belchite, a town close to Zaragoza, was a crucial battlefield during the Spanish Civil War from 1936-39.

Another scene was filmed near Aragón using a “fallow train line.” Squillante says the train sequence will “blow people away.” The series will also visit Galicia and Alicante, Seville and Granada.

The Daryl Disson spin-off is unique as it principally shoots scenes across various nations, yielding stunning visuals and allowing audiences to glimpse the diverse ways different regions have coped with the epidemic.

In the second series, there was a reunion between Carol and Daryl. However, it also marked the tragic demise of Isabelle and Laurent, with the latter being sent off to America for safety reasons. Not much is known about the storyline of the third season yet, but the trailer gives off a strong Western atmosphere.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon returns to AMC and AMC+ exclusively in 2025.
