The Union, Average Joe, and what watch on Netflix this weekend (Aug. 16)

As a seasoned gamer and Netflix enthusiast with over two decades of binge-watching experience under my belt, let me tell you that this weekend’s lineup is nothing short of a dream come true! The combination of action, comedy, drama, and horror has me more excited than when I finally max out a character in my favorite RPG.

Over the coming weekend, Netflix is ramping up the excitement as we near the end of summer with a host of captivating new releases that are sure to keep you glued to your screen and spark conversations. From a fresh true crime documentary series, additional episodes of one of their most highly-anticipated original series, and a pairing of two renowned actors in a summer blockbuster movie, there’s plenty to keep your viewing schedule busy.

If you’re diving headfirst into the captivating world of Emily in Paris or enjoying the thrilling action sequences in Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg’s new Netflix movie, The Union, then you’ve made a great choice! This weekend, as we try to escape the summer heat, I’m here to recommend four must-watch titles on Netflix that are sure to keep you entertained.

Let’s start the weekend recommendations list with the latest Netflix original movie!

The Union, Average Joe, and what watch on Netflix this weekend (Aug. 16)

The Union

wrapping up Netflix’s summer lineup showcasing big names (such as Jennifer Lopez in Atlas, Jessica Alba in Trigger Warning, and Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron in A Family Affair, along with other highly anticipated films), Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg have joined forces for the action-comedy spy movie titled The Union. In this film, they portray ex-lovers who find themselves partnered up again, years later, on a covert espionage mission. Interestingly, only one of them possesses formal training and experience as a spy. This movie promises to be an adrenaline-pumping action ride with doses of humor, romance, and is rated PG-13, making it suitable for viewing this weekend!

Average Joe season 1

If you’ve recently completed binge-watching shows like “The Umbrella Academy,” “Fire Country,” and “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” on Netflix, you might be searching for a fresh series to immerse yourself in. Allow me to recommend the BET+ crime comedy-drama titled “Average Joe“. Deon Cole plays the lead role of Joe Washington, a plumber who finds himself entangled in the criminal world following his father’s demise. The initial season with 10 episodes became available on Netflix this week and has quickly entered the top 10 list. With season 2 set to debut on BET+ sometime next year, seize the opportunity to get hooked before everyone else does!

Emily in Paris season 4 part 1

Hello Emily! It’s great to see you again! After a lengthy break because of the strikes, “Emily in Paris” is back on Netflix with its eagerly awaited fourth season. The first five episodes were released on Aug. 15, and they quickly climbed to the number one spot in the daily top 10 listings. In this new season, Emily finally makes a choice fans have been eager for, but there’s still lots of exciting drama ahead with part 2 coming in September. Catch up on what Emily’s up to now and watch season 4 part 1 this weekend!

Pearl

She’s a star, and now she’s on Netflix. The fan-favorite horror movie Pearl was added to Netflix on Aug. 16, hot on the heels of the theatrical release of its sequel MaXXXine earlier this summer. The prequel to X (which isn’t currently available on Netflix) follows Mia Goth’s titular character as she resorts to violence in order to achieve her dream of becoming a movie star. Be warned, it’s a rather gory movie that non-horror fans might not enjoy. But if you love a good horror movie and are a fan of the X film series, you won’t want to miss out on a watch or rewatch of Pearl on Netflix.

More Netflix new releases to watch this weekend:
