As a long-time fan of both WWE and MMA, I can’t help but admire the audacity and tenacity of CM Punk. Having followed his career since his days as a WWE superstar, I was intrigued by his decision to venture into the world of mixed martial arts. It takes a special kind of courage to step out of your comfort zone and take on a new challenge, especially when you have built a successful career in one field.
Legendary WWE Hall of Famer, known as The Undertaker, has shared the reason behind his appreciation for a present WWE star. Nearly every WWE superstar acknowledges him as a locker-room leader, so being commended by The Undertaker carries significant weight.
Throughout various years, The Undertaker has wrestled numerous WWE stars and shared exceptional camaraderie with his fellow athletes, including heavyweights such as Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, Randy Orton, and many others. Most recently, on his podcast, The Deadman publicly praised none other than CM Punk for his MMA techniques.
In 2014, CM Punk ended his tenure with WWE due to creative differences. He then made a daring move by venturing into mixed martial arts (MMA). After leaving WWE, he joined the leading MMA organization, UFC, in late 2014.
As a gamer putting on my UFC gloves, I made my debut in September 2016 against Punk, but it didn’t take long for Mickey Gall to tap me out in the first round. Fast forward to June 2018, and I faced off with Mike Jackson. Despite giving it my all, I lost by unanimous decision. However, a twist of fate came when Jackson tested positive for marijuana, causing the decision to be overturned.
CM Punk’s MMA journey didn’t go according to his initial blueprint. Yet, the esteemed WWE Hall of Famer, The Undertaker, has shown immense respect for Punk’s bravery in diving into mixed martial arts.
The Undertaker praises CM Punk for his bold move into MMA
The Undertaker recently appeared on MMA star Demetrious Johnson’s podcast. Johnson is the current ONE Flyweight Champion competing in ONE Championship. He asked The Undertaker about CM Punk’s transition into the world of MMA.
As a gamer, I’ve got to give Punk props for stepping out of his comfort zone. He was a wrestling legend, and instead of resting on those laurels, he decided to dive headfirst into mixed martial arts. It was a risky move because wrestling was his bread and butter, but he took the plunge anyway, even if it meant getting beaten pretty badly.
The esteemed athlete also commented, “I held him in high regard, and I admired his determination to try. It was his dream, and he pursued it. Unfortunately, it didn’t succeed, but now he’s returned to where he belongs, and everything seems perfectly fine again.”
Although it’s flattering for CM Punk to receive praise from The Undertaker, both wrestlers have given fans memorable matches. Particularly noteworthy are their epic encounters at WrestleMania 29 and their Hell in a Cell fight in 2009.
