As a dedicated gamer and fan of sci-fi action movies, I’ve been eagerly waiting for news about “The Tomorrow War” sequel since its release. With Yvonne Strahovski expressing hopefulness for the project, my excitement levels have reached new heights. I can almost hear the pulse-pounding music and feel the adrenaline rush as I imagine Dan Forester and Muri Forester teaming up once again to save humanity from those pesky Whitespikes!
The film titled “The Tomorrow War” debuted on Amazon Prime Video on July 2, 2021, and despite receiving a mixed reception from critics, it shattered various viewership records. With its triumph, discussions about a possible follow-up began as early as the same month of release. However, over three years have gone by since then without any new information on this topic. Yet, actress Yvonne Strahovski, who plays Colonel Muri Forester in the original production, recently shed light on whether a sequel was still being worked on.
Yvonne Strahovski still ‘hopeful’ for a The Tomorrow War sequel
In her latest statement, Strahovski expressed that she’s unable to discuss the sequel’s progress yet, but she remains optimistic that it might still be produced.
Strahovski shared with ComicBook, “Regrettably, I can’t offer any insights about that,” she added, “I’m optimistic about the outcome, but that’s as much as I have to share at this point.
In the initial film, Muri Forester, portrayed by Strahovski, is revealed to be the grown-up child of Chris Pratt’s character Dan Forester in the future. The plot unfolds in a universe where humankind confronts an impending alien invasion. Prior to being a biology teacher and a former Green Beret, Dan journeys from 2022 to 2051 to combat these extraterrestrial beings, identified as the Whitespikes. In the process, he reconnects with his daughter, who unexpectedly leads the human uprising.
Just a few days following the film’s premiere on Prime Video, Deadline announced that discussions were underway for a sequel involving key cast members such as Pratt and Strahovski, along with director Chris McKay and screenwriter Zach Dean. In fact, even before the movie’s release, McKay had expressed interest in delving into the backstory of the Whitespikes in potential future installments. (Based on ComicBook)
During an interview with Uproxx in April 2023, McKay expressed thoughts about The Tomorrow War’s success and mentioned that a script is being written for its sequel. He didn’t provide details on whether the project has moved forward since then.
