It appears that Leatherface may be preparing to roar his chainsaw again, as it’s being reported by Deadline that studios are considering reviving the legendary Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, aiming for a major actor to take on a leading role.
What do we know about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot?
Based on a Deadline report, it appears that various film studios and creators have been in touch with Verve, an agency that has managed the rights to the renowned horror series since 2017. Notably, JT Mollner, director of the successful 2023 indie thriller Stranger Darling, is one of the individuals who have shown interest in this franchise.
The deadline suggests that if given a chance, writer Mollner might draft a script for another installment of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It’s indicated that popular actor Glen Powell is someone who’d be eager to read such a script. As of now, the pairing of Mollner and Powell isn’t finalized, but it’s worth noting that studios like Lionsgate, A24, Neon, and others have expressed interest if this project materializes.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series is renowned as one of the most emblematic horror movie franchises globally. Debuting in 1974 with its title The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, this series has given rise to an enduring symbol within the horror world – the chilling antagonist Leatherface.
Over the course of its existence, no less than nine films have been produced, adapting the series. The most recent addition to this collection is David Blue Garcia’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a Netflix production, which takes place half a century after the initial movie.
