The Testaments’ known plot details so far
After Margaret Atwood’s 2019 book The Testaments, the upcoming Hulu series offers a glimpse into the lives of young women in the society of Gilead. The narrative unfolds fifteen years following the events in The Handmaid’s Tale.
In Gilead, these young women have spent their entire lives, with no recollections of the world beyond it due to their indoctrination. They face the possibility of being wedded off and living a life of servitude. To secure their freedom and the life they aspire for, they must seek support from both old and new allies. (USA Today)
Bruce Miller, who oversees The Testaments series, hinted that the world of Gilead in the forthcoming sequel will be “diverse” compared to what viewers have witnessed in The Handmaid’s Tale. He shared with The Hollywood Reporter that “The Testaments was an original twist crafted by Margaret Atwood for the show I was developing.
He remarked, “Margaret’s approach, which is marvelous, involves closing one container and stating, ‘I don’t need to open that right now.’ Instead, let’s explore the next one to discover its contents. It could be anything unexpected.” This new chapter offers a broader range of possibilities.
