He mentioned that the second film stands out as it covers a larger area, and the setting is fascinating in terms of the Mario universe’s lore. He added that there will be some truly amazing hidden references, or “Easter eggs,” and he finds the experience quite thrilling thus far.
Key expressed, “It seems they’ve expanded the universe where these characters reside significantly, introducing new characters. Some of these new characters will be familiar faces, while others might be considered ‘deep cuts.’ However, given the current direction of the story, these characters are shaping up to be quite intriguing.
Previously, Pratt expressed his conviction that The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 might initiate a Nintendo Cinematic Universe. In an interview with ScreenRant in May 2024, he shared, “There’s a wealth of games spanning decades to delve into, not just with characters like Mario, Peach, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Bowser, and Yoshi; the end teaser hinted at more. The thought of it excites me immensely. I was a huge Nintendo fan growing up, so contemplating all the possibilities for this universe that I adore? It’s endless. We could discuss it for hours.
