The plot goes like this: Demi Moore delivers an outstanding performance as Elisabeth Sparkle, a once high-profile actress struggling to regain her former glory. She encounters an intriguing proposition involving a mysterious substance. After a single dose, she transforms – albeit temporarily – into the youthful Sue, played by Margaret Qualley. The catch? Time must be shared equally: seven days in one body, then seven days in the other. No deviations allowed. Seems simple enough, right? This film is a wildly entertaining and biting satire that serves as a cautionary tale for all time: beware what you wish for.
Alongside Moore portraying Elisabeth Sparkle and Quelley playing Sue, the cast of The Substance also includes Dennis Quaid as Harvey, Edward Hamilton Clark as Fred, Gore Abrams as Oliver, Oscar Lesage as Troy, and Yann Bean providing the voice for The Substance.
