The Substance director Coralie Fargeat has given an update about her next movie.

In 2017, Coralie Fargeat stepped into feature film directing for the first time with the action-packed thriller “Revenge,” featuring Matilda Lutz. Five years later, in 2024, she released her subsequent project titled “The Substance,” which had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May of that year.

Now, speaking with Variety, Fargeat has started to think about what her next film project will be.

What did Coralie Fargeat say about her next project after The Substance?

When asked if she’s started working on another project since The Substance, Fargeat replied, “At the moment, I’m not ready to talk about anything new. I’m simply savoring the present and taking a break, as I truly want to write my next project. Ideas are gradually forming in my mind, and once things settle down, I’ll start working on it.

As a gamer diving into uncharted territories, I’m brewing an idea in my mind: “This project is gonna be unique yet familiar. I thrive on creating unexpected twists and turns, so buckle up! The liberty I took with this film was exhilarating, and that’s definitely something I want to continue exploring. That sense of freedom was the highlight for me while working on ‘The Substance’.

One thing is for sure: Whatever Fargeat is working on next won’t be a sequel to The Substance.

She shared with Variety recently, “The aim of this film is to offer novelty to the audience. There will be no sequels, no prequels, and definitely not part 2 or 3. I’m eager to introduce something new and fresh to the world soon.
