Facebook’s impact on our connections transcended boundaries, reshaping the world, not always in a positive manner. In “The Social Network Part 2,” we’ll uncover how this platform contributed to the dissemination of false election claims, radicalized users, and even had a role in the Capitol riot on January 6. This upcoming installment is backed by leaked internal documents, revealing the true extent of the harm caused.
Inspired By Real World Scandals
In contrast to the original tale of The Social Network, the forthcoming installment will veer away from another tech genesis narrative. Instead, it delves into the repercussions, examining how Facebook has exacerbated political discord, propagated falsehoods, and instigated actual violence in the real world. This includes its involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot. Unlike a typical sequel, this new production is less concerned with expanding Mark Zuckerberg’s backstory and more engaged in unraveling the aftermath of Facebook’s transformation.
Leaked Documents, Real Damage
The narrative unfolds around the Facebook Files, a collection of confidential internal documents that were leaked, revealing instances where the platform neglected the harm it inflicted. From amplifying harmful content to exacerbating feelings of inadequacy among young users, these leaks underscored the extent of the underlying issues. Now, these consequences are being portrayed on the silver screen.
David Fincher Is Not Involved
Originally, David Fincher helmed the movie and received acclaim for its unique atmosphere and aesthetic, but unfortunately, he won’t be involved in this upcoming production. In contrast, it is Aaron Sorkin who will take charge of the project on his own.
What About The Original Cast?
It remains undecided if Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, or any of the initial actors will reappear in the movie. Considering the story’s leap in time and change in direction, there’s a chance that the film may introduce a new cast while still paying homage to the original characters.
The project is at a very initial stage, hence we don’t have a fixed schedule for when shooting or distribution will take place.
