The movie recounts the remarkable true tale of the courageous and exceptional women who formed the only all-black, all-female battalion during World War II. In the film’s summary, we learn that these 855 brave individuals joined the war effort with limited understanding of their role, only to be tasked with an unprecedented mission: clearing a three-year backlog of undelivered mail. Skeptics doubted they could complete this titanic task, but the women not only accomplished it in half the time allotted, they did so amidst discrimination, foreign lands, and a war-ravaged country. They successfully sorted through over 17 million pieces of mail, bridging connections between American soldiers and their families back home. The battalion’s motto – ‘No Mail, Low Morale’ – served as their constant inspiration during the challenging times. These women were not just delivering mail; they were delivering hope.
