A few weeks back, we were chatting about whispers of a potential relaunch, thanks to Sims 1 and 2 merchandise popping up in Poland. Well, it’s no longer just speculation! Electronic Arts has given us long-time Sims enthusiasts something to cheer about – they’re bringing back The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 as part of the Legacy Collections. As a gamer, I can hardly contain my excitement!
As a passionate gamer, diving back into some classic titles has been a much-anticipated adventure. These digital editions promise to gather the base games with most of their expansions, all optimized for modern gaming PCs – or so they say. While the initial announcement sparked a wave of excitement within our community, the actual launch has been anything but smooth sailing. Instead of reminiscing about these cherished classics, many of us are battling crashes, bugs, and technical headaches. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest updates on The Sims.
A Nostalgic Return, But With Serious Hiccups
The Legacy Collections were intended to update The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 for contemporary systems, ensuring they could run smoothly without compatibility problems. Unfortunately, the actual experience hasn’t matched the expectation as players have encountered numerous game-halting glitches. These issues have led to a surge of complaints on online discussion platforms like forums and Reddit threads.
A significant problem arises due to the DirectX 9.0c error, causing games to fail to start. Even if users manage to bypass this initial issue, they often face recurring crashes and unusual AI actions, such as Sims finding it difficult to perform basic tasks like sitting down for a meal.
That was quick, just had enough time to create the family

Whale_Bonk_You, one of our users, shared that the game kept crashing, but on a positive note, he managed to save his family from a bug. This post garnered over 10k upvotes. The comments section is filled with people agreeing that the game hasn’t improved and seems to be just a re-release. They joke about not being surprised by EA since they were named the worst company in America two years in a row. So, here we go again with another disappointing release from EA.
The Same Procedure As Every Year
In a somewhat sarcastic way, players reminisced about missing the original flaws of The Sims 2. Back in the day when it first came out, bugs and malfunctions were common with the game. Some enthusiasts have humorously suggested that these technical issues make the re-releases feel more genuine – as if they’ve been transported back to the early 2000s. “This is exactly how I recall The Sims 2,” one Reddit user commented wittily.
Initially released with some issues, Electronic Arts (EA) has pledged continuous improvements, aiming to ultimately deliver the polished, nostalgic experience gamers were anticipating. The traditional EA method: launch a game with glitches, hope they go unnoticed, and then rectify them. In this instance, however, they are offering the same flawed game at double the price. Kudos!
