As a long-standing enthusiast of Cronenberg’s chilling oeuvre, the news about “The Shrouds” has sent shivers down my spine! Having grown up watching his mind-bending masterpieces like “Shivers,” “Rabid,” and “The Fly,” I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation that borders on the uncanny. The fact that this latest offering is set to hit screens in Spring 2025 only serves to prolong the agony (or joy, depending on how you look at it).

It’s now known when “David Cronenberg’s chilling new horror movie, The Shrouds,” will hit theaters as it has been bought for US theatrical distribution by both Sideshow and Janus Films.

This upcoming horror movie was written and directed by a renowned horror filmmaker, and it made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival. Starring in this film are Vincent Cassel, known for his roles in Irréversible and Black Swan, as well as Diane Kruger, who has appeared in Troy and Inglourious Basterds.

When is The Shrouds release date window?

As reported by Deadline, it appears that Sideshow and Janus Films have plans to unveil The Shrouds in cinemas during the Spring season of 2025.

Based on their extensive collaboration with David Cronenberg, which encompasses films like Videodrome, Scanners, The Brood, Crash, Dead Ringers, and Naked Lunch, both Janus Films and Criterion are thrilled to partner with Sideshow, Saïd Ben Saïd, Martin Katz, and Anthony Vaccarello for the American premiere of Cronenberg’s latest work, The Shrouds,” the statement from Sideshow reads. This was shared by the media outlet.

The plot revolves around a business magnate, portrayed by Cassel, who has developed a contentious gadget enabling the living to converse with deceased individuals. Kruger assumes three distinct roles: Becca, Terry, and Hunny. In addition to Guy Pearce (LA Confidential) as Maury, Sandrine Holt (House of Cards) as Soo-Min Szabo, Elizabeth Saunders (All My Puny Sorrows) as Gray Foner, and Jennifer Dale (Into Invisible Light) as Myrna Slotnik, the cast also includes The Shrouds.

50-year-old Karsh, a well-known entrepreneur, has been grief-stricken since his wife passed away. To cope, he invents GraveTech – a groundbreaking yet contentious technology that lets the living watch their deceased loved ones in their burial shrouds. However, one tragic night, several graves, including Karsh’s wife’s, are vandalized. Determined to find the culprits, Karsh embarks on a mission to uncover the truth.

As a diehard admirer, it’s clear that Cronenberg’s unique style weaves science fiction and horror seamlessly into his creations. This is unmistakable in films like Shivers (1975), Rabid (1977), and The Fly (1986), to name just a few of his masterpieces.
