In the realm of Oblivion Remastered, there is scarcely anything shrouded in such mystery and significance as the Daedric Artifacts. These uncommon treasures, each associated with a potent Daedric Lord, are frequently regarded as coveted items, instruments of immense power that can significantly shape a player’s gameplay style.
Not all artifacts are the same, and one stands out as causing more hassle than value – the infamous Sanguine Rose. Anyone who has used it can attest that it’s less a reliable ally and more an unpredictable time bomb, always ready to spoil your day.
The Sanguine Rose: The chaos bringer in Oblivion Remastered
Fundamentally, the Sanguine Rose serves as a mystical cane that brings forth a minion from the Daedric realm to battle alongside you. You obtain it by fulfilling the quest titled “Sanguine,” dedicated to the Daedric Prince, Sanguine, at his shrine – though we acknowledge the repetition of ‘Sanguine’ may seem excessive. Does that sound intriguing?
Regrettably, this “assistant” Daedra might not be the dependable ally you’d expect. Despite being unique, it has a distinctly negative quality. To begin with, the power of the summon can fluctuate significantly (often causing minimal harm). Secondly, the Daedra disappears after only 20 short seconds.
However, the brief cool-down period could prove beneficial, as Daedra minions might switch allegiance and attack their summoner – which is actually you. Instead of aiding in combat, they may perceive you as an enemy, launching unexpected attacks that frequently result in confusing and unwanted conflicts.
Using this RNG factor, each time you wield the staff, you’re essentially taking a roll of the dice – it could summon an ally or an enemy for you. This unpredictability makes the staff one of the least trustworthy artifacts in the game. Its high risk and minimal reward make it a weapon that serious players tend to avoid relying on, unless they enjoy taking chances with their lives, essentially gambling with their survival.
Rather than most artifacts, which provide strong enchantments or statistical upgrades, this staff’s unique feature tends to behave unpredictably and sometimes leads to undesirable consequences.
A convenient escape route from this Daedric Artifact

Should you be acquainted with the primary storyline, more precisely the Blood of the Daedra mission, you’re aware that players are expected to deliver a Daedric Artifact to Martin Septim. This transfer is irreversible, and once it’s made, you won’t regain the artifact.
This situation certainly complicates the decision, doesn’t it? Fortunately for those struggling with the Sanguine Rose, this quest offers a great chance to get rid of this problematic staff.
Considering the limitations of the Sanguine Rose, it emerges as the most suitable option for a sacrifice. By relinquishing this item that carries a higher risk of harm compared to assistance, you can safeguard your more valuable possessions undamaged.
Martin doesn’t particularly like the team, but if you entrust him with the staff during the mission, he’ll confess that he once possessed it. If events transpired according to his plan, following an inexplicable incident related to the staff, he eventually became a priest.
By the way, unfortunately, that small event resulted in the loss of some of his friends’ lives. What a heartbreaking keepsake.
ultimately, during the Blood of the Daedra quest, consider doing something beneficial for yourself: hand over the Sanguine Rose to Martin. This way, you’ll be rid of one of the least dependable and vexing artifacts in Cyrodiil. Your future self will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
