After its debut, The Sandman Season 2 has garnered a broad spectrum of critical responses, starting with a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics are split about the show’s tempo and arrangement. Yet, they applaud its visual creativity and commend Tom Sturridge’s acting for providing the foundation for the dark fantasy series.
Here’s what The Sandman Season 2’s reviews look like
Critics’ reactions to The Sandman Season 2 have been largely mixed.
Melanie McFarland from Salon.com compared the new season to an unshakeable, unrefreshing dream-like state. Ben Travers of IndieWire noted that while Season 2 offers mostly standalone stories without a solid episodic structure, it also fails to provide enough distinct details to warrant the main character’s inconsistent narrative progression, giving it a D+ grade.
Nick Hilton from The Independent UK stated that “The Sandman” was overly complex and moved too quickly to evoke emotions or introspection, giving it a 2 out of 5 rating. However, other critics found its visual aspects appealing despite some narrative issues. Kaiya Shunyata from RogerEbert.com added that while certain episodes were slow, they still presented a stunning visual spectacle.
Bob Strauss from TheWrap described it as “incredibly captivating, like a haunting dream that leaves you completely fulfilled, though it’s tough to label it as nightmarish.” Ed Power of the Daily Telegraph UK rated it 4 out of 5, stating, “This is high-level geek content – heavy, pompous, and not particularly funny.
Tom Percival from Metro.co.uk expressed that The Sandman Season 2 is equally enchanting, daring, and superb as the first one. Sean Boelman from FandomWire gave it an 8 out of 10, noting its exceptional acting, poignant storylines, and impressive production quality. In contrast, Pat Stacey from the Irish Independent rated it a 2 out of 5, saying it moves slowly, is filled with heavy-handed dialogue, and often appears too self-important.
