The Sandman Canceled at Netflix After 2 Seasons, Showrunner Gives Statement

It’s been announced that Netflix won’t continue airing “The Sandman” beyond its second season, which is yet to come.

In August 2022, “The Sandman” made its debut on Netflix. This series is a screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel titled the same way. The trio behind the creation of this show includes Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg.

According to reports, Netflix has chosen to discontinue “The Sandman” series due to allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against Neil Gaiman.

According to Deadline’s report, the latest undertaking of Neil Gaiman is facing disruption due to recent allegations. He has also stepped away from the final season of Good Omens on Amazon, and work on a Disney movie based on The Graveyard Book has temporarily halted. In addition, it was reported that his association with Dark Horse Comics ended and the Coraline musical was canceled.

What did The Sandman showrunner say about the Netflix series’ cancelation?

In a statement made by Heinberg, The Sandman’s showrunner, it was revealed that the series has always been centered around Dream’s tale. When they assessed the remaining Dream content from the comics in 2022, they realized there would be enough plot for just one more season. They are deeply appreciative of Netflix for reuniting the team and providing them with the necessary time and resources to create an adaptation that stays true to the original comics while hopefully astonishing and delighting both longtime readers and fans of the show.

Netflix did not return Vareity’s request for comment on the accusations against Gaiman.

The release date for The Sandman Season 2 is still undisclosed, but it’s anticipated to air sometime in 2025. Continuing the “Season of Micts” narrative from the source material, the upcoming season will unfold the story further.

In The Sandman Season 2, we’ll see Tom Sturridge portray Dream, Gwendoline Christie take on Lucifer, Esmé Creed-Miles step into Delirium, Adrian Lester as Destiny, Barry Sloane as The Prodigal, Ruairi O’Connor in the role of Orpheus, Freddie Fox playing Loki, Clive Russell as Odin, Laurence O’Fuarain as Thor, Ann Skelly as Nuala, Douglas Booth as Cluracan, Jack Gleeson as Puck, Indya Moore as Wanda, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Ferdinand Kingsley as Hob Gadling, Stephen Fry lending his voice to Gilbert, Asim Chaudhry as Abel, Sanjeev Bhaskar as Cain, Vanesu Samunyai as Rose Walk, Razane Jammal as Lyta Hall, Steve Coogan providing the voice of Barnabas, and Patton Oswalt voicing Matthew.
