What to Expect in The Room Next Door?
“During their younger days, Ingrid (Moore) and Martha (Swinton) shared camaraderie as colleagues at the same magazine. As time passed, Ingrid pursued a career in autofiction novel writing, while Martha became a war correspondent. Due to life’s twists and turns, they lost touch for many years. Eventually, they reconnect under peculiar yet delightful circumstances in an unconventional setting.”
In addition to the main character, The Room Next Door features actors such as John Turturro, Alessandro Nivola, Juan Diego Botto, Raúl Arévalo, Victoria Luengo, Alex Høgh Andersen, Esther McGregor, Alvise Rigo, and Melina Matthews.
Almodóvar’s latest movie, “The Room Next Door,” is adapted from Sigrid Nunez’s 2020 novel “What Are You Going Through.” Following the release of “Parallel Mothers” in 2021, “The Room Next Door” marks Almodóvar’s first full-length film. During this gap, he also worked on a short film titled “Strange Way of Life,” starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal.
The film is being produced by Agustín Almodóvar and Esther García. Sony Pictures Classics will take care of distribution within North America, whereas Warner Bros. Pictures will manage major international marketplaces for the movie.
2024 is set to see the first-ever showing of “The Room Next Door” at the Venice International Film Festival. Following its Venetian debut, it’s scheduled to be screened at the 2024 New York Film Festival.
Almodóvar’s drama will be released in the United States on December 20, 2024.
