Following the filming of Season 1 predominantly in New Zealand, the production crew returned the breathtaking vistas to J.R.R. Tolkien’s native country for Season 2. Significant locations throughout the United Kingdom were utilized to embody the spirit of Middle-earth, offering an authentic setting for the second season’s intense narratives. (Paraphrased version)
- Windsor Great Park: Featured in the early scenes with Galadriel and Elrond, its vast woodlands were the perfect setting for elven adventures.
- Virginia Water (Windsor Great Park): The area around Virginia Water Lake, especially near the Cascade. A man-made waterfall served as a filming location. They managed to keep parts of the park open to the public while designating specific spots for the shoot.
- High Rocks and Harrison Rocks, Kent: It’s made of sandstone and was featured during the chase scene with Elrond and Galadriel in Episode 1.
- Frensham Common, Surrey: The National Trust common land looks after this beautiful area. Serves as the perfect spot to depict characters traveling through Middle-earth. It offers a variety of landscapes just 30 miles from London. Shows like The Witcher and movies like The Mummy have also featured it.
