The Righteous Gemstones: Why the HBO Series Is Ending After Season 4

The Righteous Gemstones returns for its fourth and final season, continuing the tale of the renowned yet troubled televangelist family. As viewers eagerly anticipate the plot developments, they also wonder about the reason behind the show’s conclusion in its fourth chapter. Consequently, what is driving The Righteous Gemstones to conclude with Season 4?

Here is everything you need to know about the conclusion of the popular comedy series.

Why is The Righteous Gemstones ending after Season 4?

It seemed fitting for the creators of The Righteous Gemstones to conclude the series with Season 4. In fact, the show was officially renewed for its fourth season back in July 2023. Yet, just a few months ago, in January this year, it was revealed that the show will actually finish up after Season 4.

In an interview with GQ, Danny McBride, the creator of The Righteous Gemstones, revealed why the show ended. He said that he felt it was God’s time for them to move on, as they had accomplished what needed to be done – it just seemed fitting or natural. Furthermore, McBride told Yahoo News Canada that each season had its own self-contained and complete storyline. He emphasized that the themes revolved around finding resolution and moving forward.

Speaking as the creator of our beloved series, let me clarify that I didn’t formally declare Season 4 as the finale. The truth is, things aren’t set in stone yet. I’ve reached a point where I feel I’ve accomplished what I wanted with the storyline. It’s bittersweet, though. I’m surrounded by incredible talents – actors and crew alike – so it’s hard to say goodbye. Looking back at all the great moments we’ve shared, and realizing this might be the end of an era, is a tough pill to swallow.

In the United States, new installments of The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 are airing on HBO Max starting March 9, 2025, with each episode being released at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time every Sunday night.
