The Resurrection of the Christ Production Start Date Set for Mel Gibson’s Sequel

Information about when Mel Gibson might begin filming for “The Resurrection of the Christ,” a possible sequel to his 2004 movie “The Passion of the Christ,” has been revealed, suggesting that production may start shortly.

When is The Resurrection of the Christ production start date?

As per an edited Eventbrite invitation, Jim Caviezel is expected to start filming for The Resurrection of The Christ either in late February or early March, as reported by World of Reel. Earlier, the invitation mentioned that Caviezel was a month away from commencing production on The Resurrection.

Recently on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Gibson expressed uncertainty about the start date of the film, mentioning that they are still refining several innovative concepts for the movie.

He mentioned that he’s looking forward to sometime next year. It’s a complex project because it involves an acid trip experience, he explained. His brother, him, and Randall have been discussing this, so there are some brilliant minds working on it. However, it’s not just simple work; there are some challenging aspects. To truly convey the story accurately, he believes it’s necessary to delve into the fall of angels, which means exploring a different world, another realm. In essence, you need to journey to hell.

In the upcoming sequel, Gibson is set to direct once more, and Jim Caviezel returns as Jesus. The focus of this new chapter will be on Jesus’ miraculous resurrection. Previously, Gibson hinted that he and a collaborator have penned two potential scripts for the project. One of these scripts has been described as an intense, mind-bending journey exploring uncharted territories, almost like a psychedelic experience. At present, there’s no confirmed release date or distribution platform for this movie.

The movie titled “The Passion of the Christ” portrayed the last days in the life of Jesus Christ, culminating in his crucifixion. Actress Maia Morgenstern played Mary, Monica Bellucci took on the role of Mary Magdalene, Francesco De Vito was cast as Peter, and Luca Lionello portrayed Judas. Although it garnered mixed reactions from critics, this film managed to thrive commercially. It raked in a global gross of $612 million, surpassing its estimated production budget of approximately $30 million.
