The Real Story Behind Oba Femi’s Absence from WWE NXT

As a long-time fan of WWE NXT, I must say that Oba Femi’s return at Deadline was nothing short of electrifying! The former North American Champion has always been a crowd favorite, and his comeback has certainly added an extra layer of excitement to the ongoing storylines.

Previously crowned North American wrestling champion, Oba Femi, unexpectedly resurfaced at the WWE NXT Deadline event held over the weekend in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He stepped into the Iron Survivor Challenge contest, taking Eddy Thorpe’s place.

Originally, the contest included Wes Lee, Je’Von Evans, Nathan Frazer, Ethan Page, and Eddy Thorpe. Unfortunately, due to a backstage assault during the previous week’s WWE NXT episode, Thorpe was unable to participate. In his place, Femi took up the spot as the last competitor.

Towards the final stages of the game, Je’Von Evans and Ethan Page found themselves equal at two points each. Just before the 25-minute mark, Femi executed a formidable double chokeslam, knocking down both Lee and Frazer simultaneously, resulting in a double pin. This impressive move earned him three points, clinched the match victory, and propelled him to the position of top challenger for Trick Williams’ NXT Championship.

Fans were taken aback when Femi came back recently, as his last performance was in October at NXT Halloween Havoc. That’s where he faced off against Tony D’Angelo in a Tables, Ladders & Scares match and unfortunately lost. For 273 days prior to that loss, Femi proudly held the title of WWE NXT North American Champion, making him the longest-reigning champion in this division. However, he had to take some time off after his rematch against D’Angelo, which brings us to now – the reason for his absence from WWE NXT has finally been disclosed.

Based on Fightful Select’s exclusive report (available for subscribers), Oba Femi took a break after WWE NXT Halloween Havoc and spent time in Nigeria. It was anticipated that he would return soon, which happened when he made his comeback at WWE NXT Deadline over the weekend.
