Refreshing fans’ excitement about the film, Gareth Evans shared with Entertainment Weekly that reconnecting with actor Iko Uwais in Indonesia sparked fresh ideas for what The Raid 3 might become.

Evans shared that he had a concept for the sequel to The Raid 2 earlier, but due to his involvement in other projects, he had to abandon it. The director explained, “At first, I had an idea that would’ve been the immediate follow-up to The Raid 2. It was set mere minutes after the second film ended, but then I got engrossed in other ventures. As time went by so quickly, I couldn’t execute that version of the movie anymore. So, I essentially let it go and moved on.”
