The Queen of Genovia returns with The Princess Diaries 3

As a child of the 2000s who grew up watching Mia Thermopolis navigate her way through high school and later become queen, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the announcement of The Princess Diaries 3! Twenty years have passed since we first saw Anne Hathaway as Mia, transforming from an awkward teenager into a powerful monarch.

Twenty years down the line since I, as Mia Thermopolis, ascended the throne as Queen of Genovia in “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,” it seems like the tale continues for me! Anne Hathaway, who brought my iconic role to life, has confirmed her return, and we’re even more excited because a third installment is in the works. Adele Lim will be at the helm as director for this next chapter of our story. Can’t wait to share it with you all!

Additionally, Adele Lim is involved with various productions including “Crazy Rich Asians”, “Joy Ride”, and “Raya and the Last Dragon”.

As audiences parted ways from Mia Thermopolis, she was starting to alter the rules, laws, and societal norms of Genovia by assuming power without a husband by her side. Nevertheless, the ending of The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement hinted that Mia might be embarking on a romantic journey with Nicholas Deveraux, portrayed by Chris Pine.

During the course of events, Queen Clarisse relinquished her rule and ended the movie by marrying her long-time partner, Joe.

I haven’t received any official word just yet about the comeback of Julie Andrews, Héctor Elizondo, Chris Pine, or Heather Matarazzo, the talented actors who brought Mia’s closest friend, Lilly Moscovitz, to life on screen.

In The Princess Diaries 3, which storyline will be explored? The first two movies focused on a girl transitioning into a queen from an ordinary background, providing humor as she navigated a world vastly different from her upbringing. However, since Mia has been ruling Genovia for many years, what storyline will unfold for her this time?

Garry Marshall was the director behind both “The Princess Diaries” and its sequel “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,” skillfully transforming Meg Cabot’s humorous, refined, and delightful novel worlds onto the screen.

As a gaming enthusiast, I must say, there’s a world of possibilities for an engaging narrative when we explore a matured version of Mia Thermopolis. It would be thrilling to discover whether our beloved cast mates from the past will embark on this new journey with her, joining forces in her next grand adventure.
