The Punisher MCU Special in the Works With Jon Bernthal

A Marvel Special Presentation focused on Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/Punisher is in the works.

In the Netflix’s Daredevil series, Bernthal portrayed the character of Frank Castle/Punisher. Subsequently, he starred as the lead in The Punisher, a Marvel Netflix show that ran for two seasons. Now, Bernthal is set to reprise his role in Daredevil: Born Again, produced by Marvel Television.

In future Marvel Cinematic Universe outings, fans can expect to see more of Daredevil’s counterpart, Frank, as Marvel Studios’ Brad Winderbaum has revealed that a special presentation centered around The Punisher is currently under development.

What did Brad Winderbaum say about the Punisher special?

As a devoted gamer, I’m thrilled to share some exclusive insights about one of my favorite characters – The Punisher. This guy is deeply personal to Jon, and he’s turned him into an iconic figure. In fact, he’s currently working on something special with us regarding this character!

The Punisher is fueled by a lot of pain and the desire for vengeance and justice. But what really grabs me is where his philosophy on meting out justice takes him. To me, that’s the most intriguing aspect of The Punisher – understanding how he justifies the violence he dishes out.

So far, Marvel Studios has introduced two Marvel Special Events, a collection of self-contained television shows taking place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The initial one was Werewolf by Night, debuting in October 2022. This was followed by The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which became available about a month later. Both specials can now be streamed on Disney+.

Plot details for the Punisher-focused special remain under wraps at this time.

In March 2025, the eagerly anticipated Daredevil: Born Again series will make its debut on television. Alongside Bernthal, the cast includes Charlie Cox portraying Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio playing Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, and Deborah Ann Woll in the role of Karen Page.
