The Platform 2 Ending Explained: What Happens to Perempuan?

As a fan who has traversed through countless labyrinthine narratives, I must say that The Platform 2 has left me both intrigued and baffled. Much like a maze within a tower, this film is a complex web of questions and interpretations, with its enigmatic ending only adding to the mystery.

Similar to its predecessor, The Platform 2 is intricate, multi-layered, and not an effortless film to decipher. The conclusion raises a multitude of questions, and the numerous connections it shares with the original only intensify these queries. Yet, much like the original, the narrative’s central theme revolves around one character, Milena Smit’s Perempuan in this instance, and whether she manages to survive or perish within the Vertical Self-Management Center.

The Platform 2 Ending Explained: What Happens to Perempuan?

What happens at the end of The Platform 2?

The film titled “The Platform 2” doesn’t explicitly clarify whether it’s a sequel or a prequel. At the beginning of the movie, there’s a sense of order within the tower-like prison facility, but this order comes with harshness. A viewer might surmise that Goreng’s actions from the first film contribute to these changes. However, Perempuan meets Trimagasi (Zorion Eguileor), a character from the initial movie, as her third cellmate on level 72. Reminders of Trimagasi informing Goreng that he started his imprisonment on level 72 might lead one to speculate that this could be a prequel taking place before the original storyline.

In The Platform 2, “the faithful” carry out their command, working to guarantee that each person gets their preferred food. This places them at odds with “the savages,” who desire to eat whatever they wish as soon as the food platform arrives at their level. Initially, Perempuan adheres to the rules. However, she eventually realizes the ruthlessness of the faithful, headed by Dagin Babi (Óscar Jaenada). After a fierce clash between the faithful and the savages, Perempuan attempts to flee while the prisoners are rendered unconscious and relocated across the levels. Perempuan stays awake by consuming a torn fragment of a painting. She later chokes on it. Consequently, she remains conscious when the pit’s cleaners render the other prisoners unconscious using gas.

Descending into a stack of deceased individuals, Perempuan makes her way to level 333 – what was believed to be the final floor of the tower. However, the tower continues beyond this point. In this hidden depth, she encounters a youthful figure. Haunted by the unintended consequence of her boyfriend’s son’s demise, she resolves to escort the boy from then on.

Does Perempuan die or escape from the Vertical Self-Management Center?

As I navigated through the game’s narrative, it seemed clear that Perempuan met her end, likely from the wounds she sustained during our descent. Alternatively, she and the other prisoners might have perished before reaching the tower, symbolizing a transition into another realm – a representation of life’s journey and our relentless pursuit for ascent. This could also be echoed in the scenes featuring children, possibly hinting at how societal pressures to climb the social ladder are ingrained in us from an early age.

When Woman arrives at the lowest point, she finds deceased prisoners there. They tell her that the young one can ascend, but not her. In a scene shown during the credits, Trimagasi resurfaces and converses with Goreng. Later, Woman appears, and it seems clear that she and Goreng have some past connection. It’s possible he is the man from her history, and they reconnect in their shared afterlife.
