As a dedicated gamer, I’m just as eagerly awaiting the release of The Penguin Season 2 as everyone else. However, some fresh insights from Colin Farrell have given us a peek into his thoughts about reprising his role for another round.
What did Colin Farrell say about The Penguin Season 2?
Backstage at the SAG Awards, Farrell mentioned that he’s not particularly eager to start a second season right away, yet he didn’t rule out the possibility entirely.
Farrell stated that he doesn’t have a wish for it, not even its opposite. He clarified that everyone gave their all during the eight-hour production. The thought of returning, possibly due to perceived success, and diminishing the original feel of the project is unappealing to him. Therefore, he has no urgency or strong desire to participate again. However, if they come up with a plan that aligns well with Matt Reeves’ cinematic universe and is a good idea, he’s open to it. But for now, it’s not something on his immediate radar.
Farrell’s remarks align with those of Matt Reeves, director of The Batman and architect of the encompassing universe shared by Robert Pattinson’s Batman and Farrell’s character, the Penguin, as well as DC Studios co-heads Peter Safran and James Gunn.
Gunn stated during his recent interview with Variety that there’s a lot going on, with many factors at play – likely the most significant one is Colin himself, but we’re still unsure about the details.
During a recent chat with Josh Horowitz from Happy Sad Confused, Reeves revealed that discussions regarding the continuation of Oz’s tale are ongoing among him, showrunner Lauren LeFranc, Farrell, and executive producer Dylan Clark.
It’s clear that there will be a sequel to The Batman, and we are focusing on finding the perfect moment for its release. Our intention is to produce another season if we can develop an idea that we believe is worthy and fitting, which is exactly what we are currently working on.
The Penguin television series was a massive success for Farrell, Warner Bros. Discovery, and everyone involved in it. It received widespread acclaim from critics, and even garnered three nominations at the Golden Globe Awards. Notably, Farrell won the award for Best Actor — Miniseries or Television Film, recognizing his exceptional portrayal of Oswald “Oz” Cobb.
