The Penguin Ending Explained & Finale Recap: What Happened to Victor?

As a long-time fan who’s witnessed the twists and turns of Gotham’s criminal underworld, I must say that the finale of “The Penguin” has left me both stunned and intrigued. The bitter battle between Oz and Sofia, two characters whose complexities have kept us hooked for seasons, reached its climax in a way that was as unpredictable as it was satisfying.

The final episode of “The Penguin,” titled “A Great or Little Thing,” has been broadcasted, and it’s undeniably one of the most surprising and unforeseeable television hours this year. The intense power struggle between Oz (Colin Farrell) and Sofia (Cristin Milioti) concludes, with only one of them prevailing. In addition, Victor (Rhenzy Feliz) stands by Oz once more; however, his ultimate destiny may not align with fans’ expectations.

Here’s The Penguin ending explained and finale recap.

What happened at the end of The Penguin finale?

The episode opens by revealing that Francis has long been aware that Oz was responsible for the deaths of his brothers, as depicted in a flashback sequence. At one point, Francis had asked Rex Calabrese to eliminate Oz, but she changed her mind after observing how devoted her last son, Francis, was to her. In the ensuing events, Sofia learns about this history with Julian’s assistance and attempts to exploit it against Oz.

In the end, Oz breaks free, and despite Sofia offering a reward for his capture, he successfully manipulates Victor into swaying the top lieutenants of all significant gangs in Gotha. With their assistance, they overthrow their leaders, allowing Oz to seize power over the city. However, instead of eliminating her, Oz apprehends Sofia and sends her back to Arkham State Hospital under the supervision of Julian Rush. Before the episode concludes, he gives her a letter from her sister Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman.

In the finale, Oz, having ascended to the pinnacle of Gotham’s criminal world with Victor’s aid, meets a tragic end at Oz’s hands. Meanwhile, Francis remains alive but is manipulated by Oz into pretending that Eve is his mother. As Eve laments the lack of anyone to challenge Oz, the Bat-Signal suddenly illuminates in the distance.

Why did Oz kill Victor Aguilar?

Oz kills Victor for the same reason he lets Sofia live. Both actions serve his ambition. In a key sequence taking place in Gotham’s city hall, Oz and Councilman Hady map out their plans. During this interaction, Oz hints at his political ambitions, prompting the other man to respond that if Oz wants to be welcomed in the city hall, he must look clean.

Later on, Hady claims responsibility for Sofia’s fall. The conflict between the Maronis and Carmines/Gigantes is suspected to have caused the explosion. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean Oz is completely innocent. Victor is aware of Oz’s actions, which could be why Oz ends up killing him.

In numerous storylines, the character Penguin assumes the role of mayor in Gotham City. This episode strongly suggests that Oz from the Batman Epic Crime Saga harbors similar ambitions.
