The Office’s Jenna Fischer Defends ‘Really Good’ Show After Steve Carell’s Exit

Jenna Fischer loves The Office, even the seasons after Steve Carell‘s exit.

Fischer, who portrayed Pam Beesley for the entire run of nine seasons, has concluded her collaboration on Office Ladies – a rewatch podcast alongside co-star Angela Kinsey. Having viewed every one of the 201 episodes, Fischer now shares insights regarding the final stages of the series.

What did Jenna Fischer say about The Office after Steve Carell’s exit?

One of the most contentious discussions about The Office centers on its last two seasons (Seasons 8 and 9), during which Steve Carell, who portrayed Michael Scott, was conspicuously absent. Carell left the show following Season 7. Many viewers believe that Michael’s exit marked a significant shift in the series, as the final two seasons received less praise and faced more criticism.

More recently, Fischer discussed The Office during a chat with Dan Carvey and David Spade on Fly on the Wall. Following the conclusion of the podcast, Fischer voiced his appreciation for seasons 8 and 9 of the show.

After watching it again, I realized that it’s excellent from start to finish,” Fischer shared with Carvey and Spade.

After the show received criticism following Carell’s departure, Fischer acknowledges it. Yet, she points out that among her most cherished memories are the scenes from the last two seasons.

Fisher pointed out a common perception among the cast and crew that the show may have reached its zenith during seasons 3 or 4. Additionally, there was an assumption that the episodes following Steve’s departure in subsequent seasons weren’t as strong. However, upon rewatching the entire series, he discovered some of his favorite episodes were from seasons 8 and 9 after Steve had left, as they still contained captivating storylines.

For Fischer, the most cherished episodes aired during the span from Season 4 to Season 6, featuring the Dinner Party scene and the Michael Scott’s Dunder Mifflin Paper Company saga.

The Office ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013. All 201 episodes are streaming on Peacock.
