As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds and romantic dramas, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation about the potential adaptation of Robyn Carr’s “Thunder Point” series. Having binged through both seasons of “Virgin River” and the recently released “Sullivan’s Crossing”, I’ve grown to appreciate the charm and captivating storytelling that these adaptations bring.
In simpler terms, the world created by author Robyn Carr, specifically her Virgin River series which is the foundation for popular Netflix show Virgin River and The CW’s Sullivan’s Crossing, is set to grow further. A report suggests that Thunder Point could be her next book series to make its debut on television screens.
According to Deadline on October 29th, Roma Roth, the executive producer of Virgin River and creator/writer of Sullivan’s Crossing, has chosen Thunder Point as her next project to bring to television. Roth will be adapting the nine-book series written between 2013 and 2015 into a new TV show that promises to deliver suspenseful drama, intriguing mysteries, and of course, a healthy dose of romance.
At present, since the announcement of “Thunder Point”‘s development, no network or streaming platform has been linked with the project yet. However, considering the acclaim that Roth’s adaptations of Carr’s works have received on both Netflix and The CW, it appears these platforms are prime candidates for hosting the series. Fervent fans of “Virgin River” can only hope that Netflix expresses interest in acquiring the rights to broadcast the show.
Thunder Point could be the next Virgin River
Similar to the setting of Virgin River, Carr’s Thunder Point books are set in the quaint coastal town named after it and revolve around its eclectic residents. This collection of novels focuses on a male protagonist called Hank Cooper who arrives in Thunder Point for an old friend’s funeral, only to discover he has inherited a house by the beach. The newcomer stirs interest among the locals, particularly when he pursues a relationship with Sarah Dupre.
Clearly, the resemblance to Virgin River makes Thunder Point an ideal choice for a Netflix original series. It’s also worth noting that this romantic drama would seamlessly integrate into Netflix’s expanding collection of romantic dramas adapted from books, such as Sweet Magnolia and the upcoming romantic Western drama Ransom Canyon, based on the works of Sherryl Woods and Jodi Thomas respectively.
As the popular series, “Virgin River,” moves into its seventh season, Netflix might want to expand its collection of romantic shows. With a prequel spinoff of Virgin River under development and the potential for many more seasons, it could be beneficial to introduce a new series that could complement the success of this hit show.
In addition to revealing plans for adapting “Thunder Point” into a TV series, Roth also provided a teaser of what viewers can expect.
Thunder Point has drama, mystery, and romance, all the ingredients you need to successfully build a global hit series. It is certain to appeal to fans of both Sullivan’s Crossing and Virgin River but this time the story is told from a male perspective. We are beyond excited to be continuing our incredibly successful run with best-selling author Robyn Carr.
I’m eagerly awaiting updates on the “Thunder Point” adaptation, as details about its progress and potential home network or streaming platform could be revealed soon. Regardless of whether it lands on The CW, Netflix, or another platform, fans like myself are excited for a new, captivating love story to unfold. Crossing my fingers that Netflix secures this upcoming hit!
