In a recent interview, the President of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser, subtly suggested potential plans for Mario’s future. When questioned about the prospect of a new 3D Mario game for the upcoming Switch 2, Bowser didn’t make any definitive statements – but he did advise fans to “keep an eye out.” This is Nintendo-speak for “exciting developments are on the horizon.”
As a diehard fan, I’m picking up strong hints from Bowser’s latest statements that we might just be on the brink of a new 3D Mario adventure. Fingers crossed and hoping for an official announcement soon!
No New Mario Game In The Launch Lineup (Yet)
The anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to release on June 5, 2025, and its debut collection includes Mario Kart World and a fresh Donkey Kong game. However, as of now, there’s no indication that it will feature a new mainline Mario platformer similar to Super Mario Odyssey, which was released as far back as 2017.
Fans have had quite a prolonged anticipation, given the overwhelming affection for Odyssey’s imaginative realms, smooth handling, and the memorable New Donk City level.
Why A New 3D Mario Is Almost Inevitable
It’s highly probable, even almost certain, that a new Mario game will arrive for the Switch 2. Every Nintendo console has eventually featured a major 3D Mario game, and the Switch 2 won’t buck this trend. The recent remarks by Bowser, though vague, seem to hint at an ongoing project in development. It may not be available at launch, but it likely won’t take long to follow.
