Yes, it has been confirmed that The Neighborhood spin-off has officially been shelved at CBS.
The spin-off was intended to follow Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) and Marty (Marcel Spears), as they embark on a fresh journey in life, moving out from their parents’ home and settling down in Venice Beach. Although it’s nearby, the change of scenery offers a completely new feel. It seems that financial constraints at CBS might have led to its cancellation, as suggested by Cedric the Entertainer during an interview with TV Line.
He expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating that they themselves came up with the concept and specifically chose an episode of “The Neighborhood” to film it. Later, he noted that the network isn’t producing many pilots at the moment, explaining, “They aren’t investing a large amount of money… instead, they’re primarily brainstorming ideas.” He also commented that, despite their belief in doing an excellent job, there wasn’t enough financial allowance in the budget for what they had planned.
Initially, a sneak peek at the project that’s currently on hold was provided to viewers via its pilot release on May 5th. This pilot has been woven into the Season 7 finale. The narrative thread from this project is set to continue in the upcoming season.
