As a devoted horror enthusiast who has spent countless nights huddled under blankets while watching terrifying films, I can’t help but feel my heart race with anticipation at the prospect of Osgood Perkins’ latest offering, “The Monkey.” With its chilling teaser trailer and a pedigree that includes Stephen King and James Wan, this movie is shaping up to be a must-see for any horror aficionado.

A teaser trailer for Osgood Perkins’ The Monkey has been released.

In simple terms, “The Monkey” refers to an upcoming horror film that’s adapted from a Stephen King story published in 1980 under the same title. This movie is helmed by Perkins, who recently directed “Longlegs” released in 2024 with Nicolas Cage for Neon.

What do we know about The Monkey?

In “The Monkey,” twin siblings Hal and Bill stumble upon their father’s forgotten monkey trinket in the loft. This seemingly innocuous discovery sparks a chain of chilling deaths surrounding them. Initially choosing to discard the toy and go about their separate lives, they drift apart. However, when the eerie deaths resurface, the brothers are compelled to reconnect and devise a plan to permanently eliminate the monkey, fearing it will claim the lives of those dear to them.

In this movie, you’ll see Theo James, Christian Convery, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy in the leading roles.

In his career before directing Longlegs, Perkins had previously scripted and directed movies like The Blackcoat’s Daughter (2015), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016), and Gretel & Hansel (2020). Among these films, Perkins also wrote the script for The Monkey.

Under James Wan’s production company, Atomic Monster, the movie is made. Alongside Wan, Michael Clear, Jason Cloth, and Dave Caplan act as producers. Meanwhile, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, Chris Ferguson, Peter Luo, Nancy Xu, and John Friedberg serve in executive producer roles.

In previous statements, it was mentioned that Stephen King is the pioneer of the horror genre. His impact on me, both as a kid and throughout my professional journey, has been immense, and I’ve always cherished the idea of adapting one of his tales. Among his works, The Monkey stands out to me due to its straightforward, timeless, and highly marketable concept. In my opinion, no one could be more fitting than a creative genius and dedicated genre enthusiast like Osgood to bring this project to fruition.

The Monkey will be released in United States theaters on February 21, 2025, from Neon.
