Jeff Ewing from That Hashtag Show praised The Monkey as “exceptionally intelligent, daring, and gruesome,” going so far as to say that it’s “definitely one of the best horror-comedies we’ve seen in years.” Brian Tallerico of Roger Ebert commended the film for its lean structure, stating that it focuses entirely on a toy monkey stirring up mayhem without any unnecessary elements.

On Bloody Disgusting, Meagan Navarro commented that the film possessed a lively, humorous vibe, and she noted that such a horror movie has never been both funnier and bloodier. In “The Monkey,” twin siblings Hal and Bill stumble upon their father’s ancient monkey figurine in the loft. This discovery marks the beginning of a string of chilling deaths that surround them. Initially choosing to discard the monkey and go about their separate lives, they drift apart over time. However, when the eerie deaths recur, Hal and Bill are compelled to reconnect and devise a plan to permanently eliminate the monkey, fearing it may claim the lives of those dear to them.
