It’s been announced what the MPA rating is for Osgood Perkins’ forthcoming Stephen King adaptation, titled “The Monkey“.
In the upcoming horror movie, Theo James, known for “The Divergent Series” and “The White Lotus,” will play two roles: Hal and Bill. This film follows Perkins’ next project, which is a follow-up to the successful horror film “Longlegs,” led by Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe.
What is the MPA rating for The Monkey?
Unsurprisingly, following the trend of many of King’s adaptations and Perkins’ past film, The Monkey, has earned an R rating due to its intense graphic violence, heavy use of profanity, and occasional sexual themes.
Titled “The Monkey,” this film is inspired by Stephen King’s 1980 short story and brought to you by acclaimed horror director James Wan. The plot revolves around estranged twin brothers Hal and Bill, who are compelled to reunite due to a bizarre sequence of deaths linked to an ancient monkey doll. This eerie occurrence was the very reason they chose to live apart in the past.
The story goes like this: When twins Hal and Bill stumble upon their father’s old monkey figurine in the attic, a string of grisly deaths ensues. Fearing the cursed toy, they decide to discard it and go their separate ways. However, as the strange deaths recur, the brothers are forced to reconnect and figure out a way to permanently get rid of the monkey before it claims the lives of those dear to them.
In addition to Tatiana Maslany (from Orphan Black), Elijah Wood (known for The Lord of the Rings films), Rohan Campbell (upcoming Halloween Ends), Colin O’Brien (Mr. Harrigan’s Phone), Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek), and Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), there are other notable actors in this movie as well.
Besides Michael Clear, Jason Cloth, and Dave Caplan, the team also includes Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, Chris Ferguson, Peter Luo, Nancy Xu, and John Friedberg in the producer role.
The Monkey hits US theaters on February 21, 2025.
