What is The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim about?

183 years prior to the events depicted in the initial Lord of the Rings movie trilogy lies “The War of the Rohirrim,” a tale focusing on the House of Helm Hammerhand, the historic King of Rohan. In this narrative, Helm and his people are confronted by Wulf, a cunning and merciless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for his father’s demise. As a result, they are compelled to mount a valiant last defense within the ancient fortress of Hornburg – a formidable structure that would later be recognized as Helm’s Deep. As the situation grows dire, Héra, Helm’s daughter, must rally her courage and lead the resistance against an adversary determined to annihilate them entirely.

The movie features Brian Cox portraying Helm Hammerhand, Gaia Wise as Héra, Luke Pasqualino playing Wulf, Miranda Otto reprising her role of Éowyn (as seen in Peter Jackson’s trilogy), and Shaun Dooley as Freca. Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitski complete the ensemble cast.

The screenplay was crafted by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, drawing inspiration from an original story penned by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Kamiyama, with a background in various Ghost in the Shell productions and experience directing episodes of Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Ultraman, was involved as well.

On December 13, 2024, “The War of the Rohirrim,” a production by Warner Bros. Pictures, will hit theaters across the United States.
