What is The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim about?

183 years prior to the events portrayed in the initial trilogy of films titled “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” the story unfolds around the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary ruler of Rohan. In this tale, a surprise attack by Wulf, a cunning and merciless Dunlending lord seeking retribution for his father’s death, places Helm and his people in a perilous situation. They are forced to make a valiant last stand within the ancient fortress of Hornburg – a formidable stronghold that will eventually be known as Helm’s Deep. As the circumstances grow dire, Héra, daughter of Helm, is compelled to find the courage to lead the resistance against an enemy determined to annihilate them entirely.

The movie’s voice actors consist of Brian Cox portraying Helm Hammerhand, Gaia Wise as Héra, Luke Pasqualino stepping into the role of Wulf, Miranda Otto reprising her character Éowyn from Peter Jackson’s series, and Shaun Dooley voicing Freca. Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitski complete the ensemble cast.

The screenplay was penned by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, drawing inspiration from a story conceived by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Notably, Kamiyama has been involved in several Ghost in the Shell productions and has also helmed episodes for Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Ultraman in the past.

On December 13, 2024, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” is set to hit movie theaters across the United States, brought to you by Warner Bros. Pictures.
