The Long Walk Release Date Set for Mark Hamill Stephen King Movie

Lionsgate has revealed that the release date for their upcoming dystopian horror thriller, titled “The Long Walk,” will soon be available in cinemas. This film features Star Wars alum Mark Hamill as the primary villain. It’s an adaptation of the 1979 novel with the same title, penned by Stephen King under his pseudonym, Richard Bachman.

This narrative unfolds in a future where 100 teenage boys participate yearly in a contest called ‘The Long Walk.’ The guidelines are clear: they must maintain a pace faster than 4 miles per hour. If they receive three warnings within an hour, they’re executed instantly. The sole survivor is granted all his desires for the remainder of his life. In these dismal conditions, the boys establish profound friendships, aware that their friends’ survival poses a threat to their own.

When is The Long Walk release date?

The film titled “The Long Walk” is set to premiere in cinemas on September 12, 2025, coinciding with the release of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale from Focus Features. This movie is directed by Francis Lawrence, who previously worked on The Hunger Games series, and it’s scripted by JT Mollner. Alongside Hamill, the talented cast includes Judy Greer, Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Garrett Wareing, Roman Griffin Davis, Joshua Odjick, among others.

At a recent CinemaCon event hosted by Lionsgate, Lawrence spoke about the maturity theme in an upcoming film, hinting that the core narrative revolves around the friendships among its youthful characters.

Lawrence mentioned that his favorite novel by Stephen King was the one he read 27 years ago. The rights for this book were initially purchased and then put back on the market. His producer, Roy Lee, presented it to him. What intrigued him most about the story was the concept, as it allowed him to envision himself in the roles of these young characters. For Lawrence, the essence of the movie lies in the world-building, specifically focusing on these young men, their camaraderie, and the bonds they form. This isn’t a competition about trying to overpower each other, but rather a testament to how they can uplift one another.
