The Legend of Ochi Release Date Delayed for A24 Movie After Director Loses Home

Due to unfortunate circumstances, the launch date for “The Legend of Ochi” produced by A24 has been pushed back, since director Isaiah Saxon unfortunately lost his home during the wildfires in Los Angeles.

Initially planned for a U.S. cinema release on February 28, 2025, “The Legend of Ochi” features Helena Zengel (from News of the World), Willem Dafoe (known for Nosferatu), Finn Wolfhard (of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), and Emily Watson (starring in Dune: Prophecy).

Per Deadline, A24 has now bumped the release date of The Legend of Ochi back by about two months.

When is the new release date for The Legend of Ochi?

Starting from January 26, 2025, The Legend of Ochi will make its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Subsequently, it will be screened in theaters across the country on April 25, 2025.

Earlier this month, Saxon shared on X, “Our home, our entire street, and most of our town were destroyed. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.” In a subsequent post, he expressed, “Altadena was the most enchanting place I’ve ever called home. A peaceful, magical, and above all else breathtakingly beautiful town. It felt like another era, and now it’s gone.

As a dedicated admirer, I’m thrilled to share that “The Legend of Ochi” marks a significant milestone in Saxon’s directorial journey – it’s his first feature film! Not only did he pen the captivating screenplay for this enchanting fantasy adventure, but he also collaborated with Richard Peete, Traci Carlson, and Jonathan Wang as producers to bring this vision to life.

Set in a secluded village on the island of Carpathia, a timid farm girl named Yuri is brought up with a deep-rooted fear towards an unseen animal species called ‘ochi’. However, when Yuri stumbles upon an injured baby ochi left abandoned, she embarks on a daring journey to return him back home.
