The Last of Us Season 3 Confirms Major Change to HBO Show

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, the masterminds behind The Last of Us, have officially confirmed that Season 3 will delve into the story of a new protagonist. This exciting revelation comes over two weeks since the second season of the critically-acclaimed HBO drama concluded its seven-episode run.

In simple terms, Season 3 of the show will continue to draw inspiration from Neil Druckmann’s highly praised video game sequel, The Last of Us Part II. The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. For this new season, the horror drama has added several new faces to its stellar lineup, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Young Manzino as Jesse, Isabela Merced as Dina, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Notably, Catherine O’Hara will make a guest appearance in the show as well.

Who is the new focus of The Last of Us Season 3?

In a recent interview, Druckmann and Mazin disclosed that The Last of Us Season 3 will primarily center around Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Abby Anderson, who was the central adversary in Season 2. Druckmann confessed that they were taken aback by HBO’s willingness to allow them to alter the show’s structure, granting them the creative liberty to pursue their intended direction for the series.

Druckmann expressed, “I believe our journey led us to HBO, a place that embraced those challenging choices. However, these choices were essential for the story, and I’m still amazed they allowed us such creative freedom. For instance, we concluded season two, and season three will feature Kaitlyn as the main character – spoiler alert!

He added, “I thought they’d prevent us from doing this when we first began modifying it, but they’ve embraced what I believe gives the story its unique charm. They not only gave us the time, but also creative liberty to swing boldly, and I think the audience admires that.

Furthermore, Druckmann and Mazin gave a hint about what to anticipate in Abby’s storyline. “It will be a season with more water elements rather than fiery ones,” Druckmann shared, while Mazin added, “We can expect a wetter season as opposed to a hotter one.
