The Last of Us Season 2 Will Feature a Bill & Frank-Style Episode

Showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have confirmed that Season 2 of “The Last of Us” will include an episode reminiscent of the memorable Bill and Frank episode from Season 1. This upcoming episode is expected to focus on the character of Eugene Linden, portrayed by actor Joe Pantoliano, who was previously seen in “The Sopranos”. In the original game, Eugene was initially presented as a member of the Jackson community’s patrol force and was also a close friend of Ellie’s romantic interest, Dina.

Showrunners tease Bill & Frank-like episode in The Last of Us Season 2

At a recent press gathering, Mazin and Druckmann characterized Season 2’s exceptional episode as “stunning.” They explained that although it shares some similarities with their award-winning Bill and Frank narrative from Season 1, it will nonetheless offer distinct differences. The episode starring Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett, titled “Long, Long Time,” is still one of the most impactful episodes from Season 1. Offerman’s portrayal earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor, while Bartlett also received a nomination in the same category.

In our discussion, Neil and I emphasized the importance of not rushing to replicate a popular episode from The Last of Us season 1 for season 2. Instead, things should unfold naturally. However, I can assure you that there’s an exceptional episode in this new season, directed by Neil himself, which deviates from the Bill and Frank storyline but stands out uniquely on its own merits. Trust me, it’s worth the wait!

In a fresh take, Pedro Pascal portrays Joel, Bella Ramsey takes on the role of Ellie, Gabriel Luna plays Tommy Miller, and Rutina Wesley is Maria in “The Last of Us.” The upcoming season will be inspired by the highly praised sequel to Naughty Dog’s video game, “The Last of Us Part II,” which showcases an adult Ellie. For the next chapter, additional talented actors have joined the renowned horror drama, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Young Manzino as Jesse, Isabela Merced as Dina, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Catherine O’Hara makes a special appearance.

Season 2 will premiere on April 13 on HBO.
