One of Sony’s most anticipated exclusives, The Last of Us Part 2, is now available on Steam, allowing more gamers to experience the controversial sequel before the HBO second season debuts in a fortnight. As exciting as this news is, it’s equally good that fans who own The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 are receiving a free update filled with fresh content!

Players who own The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on PlayStation 5 are given a complimentary download opportunity starting today. The exact release time has not been disclosed, but it may coincide with the Steam launch timing.

Regarding the complimentary download’s contents, it offers additional material for the thrilling No Return survival roguelike game mode. Notably, Naughty Dog is introducing two new characters, Marlene and Bill, who are prominent figures from The Last of Us Part 1.

In the blog post on PlayStation, it’s mentioned that these two characters – Bill, who goes by the role of a “smuggler” armed with a “custom pump shotgun,” and Marlene, characterized as a “Risk Taker” carrying a “Custom Assault Rifle” – each have their own distinct gameplay styles.

As a gamer, I’m pumped to share that along with my gaming buddies Marlene and Bill, we’ve got four fresh maps joining us in No Return! Here’s a sneak peek of what’s coming our way:

1. The Abandoned Factory – A sprawling industrial complex filled with rusty machinery and hidden corners perfect for strategic ambushes.
2. The Haunted Mansion – A spooky mansion that’s rumored to be haunted, complete with creaking floorboards, eerie paintings, and ghostly apparitions.
3. The Frozen Wasteland – A treacherous icy landscape where survival is a challenge, but the loot is worth the risk.
4. The Lost City – An ancient civilization’s remnants, filled with secrets waiting to be discovered and powerful artifacts to be claimed.

  • Overlook:
    • Set high above the city of Seattle and features plenty of verticality, is the memorable site of a Seraphites encounter in the campaign.
  • School:
    • The abandoned elementary school in which Ellie and Dina face off against the W.L.F. Streets is set in the overgrown Seattle neighborhood of Hillcrest
  • Nest:
    • Familiar to players who have played as Abby through an Infected-infested building.

Apart from the exciting “No Return” fresh content, you’ll be able to download it for free, which comes with “extra Trophies and bug fixes,” and there’s an option to buy Jordan’s jacket skin within the game using in-game currency. This jacket is inspired by Jordan’s character from Naughty Dog’s upcoming intergalactic game titled “Intergalatic”.

As a seasoned gamer diving back into The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, here’s a breakdown on the No Return mode characters and how you can unlock them:

1. Abby – Unlock her by completing the main campaign as either Joel or Ellie.
2. Lev – Complete the main campaign with Abby to access Lev.
3. Owen – Complete the main campaign with Abby and help him escape WLF custody to unlock Owen.
4. Yara – Help Yara during her quest in Jackson to unlock this character.
5. Isabella – Find and save Isabella during your journey to unlock her.
6. Manny – Assist Manny in his side mission to gain access to this character.
7. Dorsey – Complete the main campaign with Joel and help him escape WLF custody to unlock Dorsey.
8. Jesse – Help Jesse during his quest in Seattle to unlock this character.
9. Nora – Complete the main campaign as Ellie, then return to Jackson and save her from the Scars to unlock Nora.
10. Rebecca – Assist Rebecca with her side mission to gain access to this character.
